Safety cushions - the general information

General information

All models considered in the real Management are equipped with system of the additional safety (SRS) which is better known under the name of safety cushions. In an obligatory complete set of models since 1995 вып. two safety cushions are included. The system provides additional protection of the driver and the forward passenger of the car at strong front blow. On models of early years of release only the driver's pillow is provided. The structure of the SRS control unit includes the self-diagnostics module. ECU SRS is located in car salon.

Models 1998 and 1999 of вып. are in addition equipped with lateral safety cushions of forward seats which work at strong lateral blows.

Operation of safety cushions occurs on signals of sensors of the directed overloads, processed ECU SRS.

Modules of safety cushions

Driver's safety cushion

The module is placed in a stupichny part of a steering wheel and consists of a casing in which the pillow and the gazogeneratorny block are placed actually. The gas generator is in a back part of a casing and provides almost instant filling of a pillow with gas on the team which is given out by SRS. The electric signal moves on a gas generator through the spring contact established in a stupichny part of a steering column behind the module of a safety cushion.

The signal transmission through spring contact is carried out regardless of the provision of a steering wheel. Igniter in assembly of a gas generator will transform arriving team to the thermal impulse causing ignition of a poroshkoobrazny mix азида of sodium with oxide of copper. At vzryvoobrazny combustion of a powder there is a nitrogen allocation, for fractions of a second filling a safety cushion.

Passenger safety cushion


The module of a passenger safety cushion is built in in the car dashboard directly over a ware box. From above “SRS” marking in this case is put on the dashboard. The structure and a principle of functioning of the module are similar considered above for a driver's safety cushion.

The passenger pillow on volume slightly more driver's also is equipped with a steel persistent casing. The decorative cover is divided by the soldered seam which disperses at system operation.

Lateral safety cushions


Having more compact design, lateral safety cushions provide protection of the driver and the forward passenger at strong lateral blows of the car. Sensors of overloads of lateral safety cushions are placed in the lower part of door pillars.

Block of management/self-diagnostics and additional sensors of overloads


The block of management/self-diagnostics of SRS consists of the microprocessor tracing parameters of functioning of system and the sensor of overloads. The system reports about the revealed malfunctions to the driver by means of inclusion of a control lamp. At the same time in memory of the processor the corresponding code of malfunction is brought. The car in such situation should be driven away immediately on car repair shop. The control lamp will continue to burn until memory of the processor will not be cleared after performance of the corresponding regenerative repair. The SRS control unit is located on the majority of models under a back part of the central console, but can be established and under the dashboard.


Activation of a pillow occurs only at simultaneous operation of the main and additional sensors of the directed overloads. In case of failure of the storage battery a food in SRS system moves from an independent reserve source.

Precautionary measures

 Negligence to observance of precautionary measures at the address with the SRS components is fraught with receiving serious traumas!


At service of all components located near safety cushions always previously disconnect SRS:

At removal of modules of safety cushions always hold them an obverse part from itself. Do not put the module on a workbench or other surface a safety cushion aperture down.

At all do not apply an ohmmeter to measurement of resistance of the SRS components, - tension from the power supply built in a measuring instrument is capable to cause operation of pillows.

Before application on the car of electroarc welding surely disconnect SRS electroconducting (the socket of the yellow color located under a steering column in the neighbourhood with the socket of the combined podrulevy switch, - a driver's safety cushion) and the same socket behind assembly of a ware box (a passenger safety cushion).

SRS system shutdown

Disconnect from the battery at first a negative wire, then positive and wait within not less than 10 minutes before starting performance of procedures.

 If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that have the correct combination for audiosystem input in action!


Driver's safety cushion

Remove the panel of access in the central part of a steering wheel under assembly of the module of a safety cushion and disunite 2-контаткный the socket of the electroconducting passing between the module and spring contact (see. Head Suspension bracket and steering).

Passenger safety cushion

Open a ware box.

In the top part of a ware compartment, near a latch disunite 2-контаткный the socket of electroconducting of a plait of the yellow color connecting the module of a safety cushion to the main plait.

Lateral safety cushions

Hooking the special tool, accurately separate the back panel of furnish of the corresponding forward seat, - try not to touch electroconducting of yellow color.

Disunite the contact socket of electroconducting.

SRS system inclusion

Turning on of SRS modules is made upside-down.

Switch off ignition.

Connect the storage battery.

Removal and installation of the SRS components

Driver's safety cushion

Passenger safety cushion

Disconnect the module of the corresponding safety cushion.

Remove the bottom section of furnish from the passenger party of the dashboard (see. Head Body).


Disunite 2-контаткный the electroconducting socket. Turn out the sealed-up bolts with TORX type heads, then, accurately hooking a screw-driver, separate the safety cushion module from the dashboard.

 The module has considerable weight, - hold it two hands


Installation is made upside-down.

 Bolts of fastening of the module are subject to replacement without fail.


Lateral safety cushions

Disconnect SRS system.

Disunite the contact socket of electroconducting of the module of the corresponding safety cushion. Turn out two fixing screws with heads of the TORX type and remove the module.

Installation is made upside-down.
