Problem diagnostics AT/CVT - the general information

AT refusals occur on one of the following five reasons more often:

a) Decrease in efficiency of return of the engine;
b) Violation of adjustments;
c) Malfunction of hydraulics;
d) Mechanical damages;
e) Failures of the onboard processor / its alarm chain.

Problem diagnostics always should begin with the simplest checks: estimate level and ATF condition (see. Head of Control and routine maintenance), check adjustment of drives of gear shifting and a butterfly valve. Further, carry out trial runs of the car for the purpose of determination of efficiency of the brought corrections. If to eliminate a problem it was not possible, it is necessary to drive away the car on car repair shop for more detailed diagnostics with use of the special equipment. The description of refusals of AT some of symptoms is provided in the Section devoted to problem diagnostics of knots and systems of the car at the beginning of the Real Management.

Primary checks

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. During a short trip warm up transmission to normal working temperature.
2. Check ATF level (see. Head of Control and routine maintenance):

a) If liquid has not enough, make the corresponding adjustment, having added necessary quantity of fresh ATF. Be convinced of correctness of the carried-out adjustment according to indications measuring щупа, then check transmission on existence of signs of external leaks (see below);
b) If level is excessively high, merge surplus of ATF, then check it on existence of traces of presence of the cooling liquid, testifying to violation of tightness of internal partitions of the radiator separating its heat exchanger from lateral tanks with ATF (see. Head of System of cooling, heating);
c) If ATF is made foam, empty transmission and fill it with fresh liquid, - merged ATF check on existence of traces of presence of cooling liquid.
3. Check installation of turns of idling of the engine (see. Head of the Power supply system and release). In case of need drive away the car on car repair shop for performance of the corresponding adjustments.

 If the engine not as it should be, it is not necessary to start performance of primary checks of transmission until the corresponding corrections will be made.

4. Check freedom of moving of a cable of management of a gear shifting drive (see. The section Check, adjustment and replacement of a cable of gear shifting), make sure of correctness of adjustment and smoothness of a course of draft.


Diagnostics of leakages of ATF

General information


The majority of leaks easily come to light at visual check. Repair usually consists in replacement of the corresponding defective epiploon or laying. If to reveal a leak source during external survey it is not possible, act, as it is described below.

First of all it is necessary to exclude probability of a mistake in definition of the nature of leak. It is not necessary to confuse ATF to impellent oil or brake liquid (transmission liquid usually has dark red color).

For identification of a source of leak make short (some kilometers) a trip, then park the car over the outspread blank sheet of a cardboard. Later few minutes the source of leak can be revealed in the wake of liquid dripping on a cardboard.

Attentively examine a suspected site and a surface surrounding it, special attention giving to joints of interfaced prokladochny surfaces. For the purpose of expansion of a corner of the review use a pocket pocket mirror.

If to reveal a leak source still it is not possible, carefully wipe a surface of a suspected site the rags moistened with solvent, then dry it.

Replacement of the damaged laying will not lead to desirable result if to leave not eliminated the defect of the interfaced surface which has led to an exit of a sealant out of operation. Leaks through prokladochny surfaces

Periodically examine the pallet of a case of transmission. Check existence on the places and reliability of a tightening of fixing bolts, watch, that on a cover there were no traces of mechanical damages (deformation of the pallet can lead to failure of the klapanny assembly located in transmission).

Excessively hard tightening of fixing bolts, damage of a sealing surface of a case of transmission, laying destruction, and also emergence of cracks belong to number of the possible reasons of development of leaks via the pallet or a poroznost of walls of a case. To leaks through laying of the pallet can lead also case overflow by transmission liquid, or increase of pressure of ATF.

Leaks through epiploons and cuffs

Excessively high level of ATF, violation of passableness of a ventilating branch pipe, mechanical damage of walls of a landing nest, damage out of operation belong to number of the most typical reasons of an exit of epiploons of transmission actually an epiploon, or the wrong installation of the last. The probability of damage of a pin of the shaft passed in an epiploon, or excessive люфт the last as a result of wear of bearings is not excluded also.

Check a condition and correctness of landing of a sealing cuff of a directing tube measuring щупа. Periodically examine on existence of signs of leaks a surface around an arrangement of a driving gear wheel of the speedometer/sensor of speed (VSS). Leaks through defects in walls of a case of transmission


Formation of cracks or time in a body of a case of transmission can be the reason of development of leakages of ATF. Consult at specialists of car-care center.

Check tightness of shtutserny knots of connection of hoses of a cooler of ATF.

5. Transfer the selector lever to the situation "R".
6. Without starting the engine, include ignition.
7. A control lamp of OD OFF should join approximately for two seconds:

a) Refusal of inclusion of a lamp testifies to malfunction of the processor of management of AT functioning (before make sure that the lamp did not fail actually). Originators of the real Management do not recommend to make resistance and tension measurement on processor plugs as casual jumps a tension / transmission via the control unit of excessively high current are capable to deduce the last out of operation. Drive away the car for check on car repair shop.
b) If the control lamp of OD OFF works regularly, pass to the following stage of check.
8. Switch off ignition.
9. Transfer the selector lever to situation "D".
10. Disconnect raising transfer, having turned the mode switch in the situation OFF.
11. Without starting the engine, include ignition.
12. Not less than two seconds later after inclusion of ignition transfer the selector lever to situation "2".
13. Having turned the switch in the situation ON, include raising transfer.
14. Transfer the selector lever to situation "1".
15. Disconnect a mode of raising transfer (OFF).
16. Squeeze out a gas pedal against the stop, then release it.
17. Now the processor should pass to a mode of issue of information. Reading brought in memory of the block of codes of malfunctions can be made on gleams of a control lamp of OD OFF.


Models from 1995 to 1997 вып.

11. Not less than two seconds later after inclusion of ignition transfer the selector lever to situation "2".
12. Drown the button of the switch of raising transfer and, holding it pressed, transfer the selector lever to situation "1".
13. Switch off raising transfer (the lamp should go out).
14. Squeeze out a gas pedal against the stop, then release it.
15. Now the processor should pass to a mode of issue of information. Reading brought in memory of the block of codes of malfunctions can be made on gleams of a control lamp of OD OFF.


All models

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. If all traced contours function regularly, the control lamp will give out one long gleam, then ten short through equal intervals between them.
2. Reference marks of highlighting of each of codes it is noted by one long gleam after which ten consecutive gleams, defining actually code number follow:

a) If the first gleam from ten meaning is long malfunction in a chain of the sensor of turns, therefore, takes place;
b) The long second gleam means refusal in VSS chain;
c) The third long gleam corresponds to refusal in TPS chain;
d) The fourth - in a chain of the electromagnetic valve of gear shifting And 4
e) The fifth - in a chain of the electromagnetic valve of gear shifting In;
f) The sixth - in a chain of the electromagnetic valve switch of the obgonny coupling;
g) The seventh - in a chain of the electromagnetic valve switch of coupling of the converter of rotation;
h) The eighth - in a chain of the sensor of temperature of ATF;
i) The ninth - in an alarm chain of turns of the engine;
j) The tenth - in a chain of the electromagnetic valve of pressure in a path;
k) Alternation of long gleams with long eclipses of a control lamp testifies to low level of a charge of the battery;
l) On models for 1998 вып. refusal of inclusion of a control lamp of OD OFF testifies to violation of serviceability of functioning of the sensor switch of permission of starts/fires of a backing, the switch of raising transfer, or TPS;
m) On models of 1999 вып. refusal of inclusion of a lamp is usually connected with failure of the sensor switch of permission of starts/fires of a backing, or TPS.
3. Elimination of the malfunctions revealed during check demands from the performer of high qualification and it should be entrusted to specialists of car-care center. The exception is made only by VSS and TPS repair/replacement (see. Head of the Control system of the engine).


Cleaning of memory of the processor of codes

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Cleaning of memory of the processor is included into number of the repair procedures which are carried out by specialists of car repair shop. If reading of codes and necessary corrections were made by the owner of the car independently, act in the following order:
2. Switch off ignition (if it is included), wait not less than five seconds and again it include.
3. Execute procedures of reading of codes of malfunctions (see above).
4. Having turned the selector on the module of management (RSM), switch system from the Mode II mode in Mode mode I (see. Head of the Control system of the engine).
